No. DVD is an encrypted format that requires software to break the encryption (ccs) code. just get DVD Shrink, its free.

Good question, it is digital data, so one should be allowed to make a backup of it. But I think the RIAA,MPAA, and others say that a copy is a copy and not a backup.
But since you paid for the right to access the digital media, you should be able to access it if the medium that it was on gets damaged or corrupted. I reckon if you have the serial # from the disk or the case that you can obtain a copy if the original is damaged. But I am not attorney and one almost has to have a law degree to figure out a simple download now.

You dont need anything to backup your DVD, you only need a player to play it on your PC.

First make a new folder on your HD, make sure it has min. 5Gigabyte free space.
Open drive where your DVD is, then copy ALL folders, open your new created folder then paste it inside.
