Creativity is essential to decision making because, when all is said and done, there is no such thing as absolute certainty in business. You can gather and examine all the facts you like about a deal or a situation but there are always factors to take into account that cannot be measured in absolute terms, such as the human element, level of risk and quality assurance. These types of factors mean that you must use your personal judgement (or creativity) to assess the likely or possible impacts of subjective factors.
What it boils down to is that decision making can be objective (i.e. it is based entirely on factual information) or it can be subjective (i.e. it is based on non-factual information such as opinions, forecasting, etc.). The vast majority of decisions are, at least to some extent, subjective. Therefore, the person making the decision must use their creativity and judgement in order to balance the likely against the unlikely; the possible against the probable; the pros against the cons; the risks against the benefits; and so on.

We all exercise some level of creativity in our decision making. Without creative problem solving we would continue to do the same things, and making the same mistakes. I truly believe that we "customize" our lives to suit our unique circumstances.
