I recently joined a web site that uses (mostly) wmv files and can be played on wmp, which I have. Some of the files are animations and some are presentations. When I first clicked on a presentation, I needed to download something. I got Microsoft Office Powerpoint Viewer 2003. It is only a viewer.

I would like to be able to use a program that allows me to create my own presentations.

Open Office has a presentation manager that works just like Powerpoint and will open Powerpoint presentations. Get it at :

Well you need to download Microsoft Office which comes standard with Microsoft PowerPoint, which is the application you require.

The most recent version is Microsoft Office 2007 however many still use Office 2003 quite happily.

Sadly this is not for free and will set you back by a good £100 at least.

However not is all lost.
For those of you who do want a free service simply use Open Office. Which is very simular to Microsoft Works Office.
Open Office is free and can be downloaded here:

Yes, you can use OpenOffice.org Impress, and it is free, but it is not as advanced, compatible, or easy to use as the official Microsoft Powerpoint. You can buy the new Powerpoint 2007 for $109.99 for the upgrade from an older version, or the full, brand-new version for $229.99. The slightly older, but still very functional Powerpoint 2003 is also available for about $230. But it might be a better deal just to purchase the complete Office 2007 Suite, with the full version starting at $399.99. That's the price for the Standard Edition, which includes Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Outlook, and more.

Still, go with OpenOffice.org's Impress if you're low on cash.
