Is "Gears of War" just a next-gen version of "Resident Evil 4"?

I havent played RE4, but I have played most other Resident Evils, and I dont think you can compare these two games on a "just next-gen version" scale. However, there is one similarity that you didnt mention, that I did notice, the final guy in GOW is somewhat similiar to the boss in one of the resident evils (the black attire and gnarly face). To be more specific, the boss portrayed in the resident evil movie (part 2). That might be just me though. Obviously, some of the weapons are similiar as you mentioned, but the story and enemies are completely different. These two games are both great, but the differences heavily outweigh the similarities.

I guess since your talking about gameplay, the answer goes from not similiar to.....still not similiar. The gameplay in resident evil has you trying to figure out secrets to unlock certain things, there is nothing like that in GOW. I think your trying to compare how certain weapons kill enemies, chainsaw and decap., and for that you might have your similarity. Are you referring to simply weapons/dash gameplay? Its just hard to knit pick your type of similiarity, either it is or it isnt. In this case, I believe the latter.

Gears of War is a futuristic shooter against the earth spawn called the locust. the A.I. is more intelligent than in RE4, and they are actually more beastial then human. If anything Gears of War is more of like a SWAT type of game then anything. I play it every night online trying to get the insane mode acheivements. It is a very well made squad based game compared to any of the resident evils 1 person thing. Chainsaws are attached to the gun, grenades can be tagged similar to Halo 2, but to me the entire game is completely original.
5 out of 5 for single player
4 out of 5 for the lack of options to mute players, and repetitive map cycles.
With the new updates though, they will be getting quite a few maps over the next couple of months.
