I have't been swelling at all not once through out this pregnancy. But like the past few days if I stand for longer than like 5 to 10 mins my ankles swell and if I swing my arms like have them fingers facing the floor when I walk they swell slightly. Now I woke up this morning with michaline (however you spell that) man hands. Is this normal? Becuz I didn't have it before and I know some women swell but is it normal to develope it this late and it not be anything to worry about?

I'm a high risk pregnancy. I have severe pre-cervical cancer, have lost 4 pregnancys and fell last friday.

Phone your GP and get an appointment to check your urine and blood pressure, severe swelling can be a sign of pre eclampsia and with your history you really don't want to be taking any risks.
Some swelling is normal, but best to be checked out just to make sure.

Some swelling (edema) in hands, feet and ankles is not unusual late in pegnancy. Many women can't wear their wedding rings in the final month or two of pregnancy.

As other people posting have pointed out, extreme swelling can be a symptom of pre-eclampsia. Most of the time, however, moderate swelling is not.

To reassure yourself, telephone your doctor and describe the swelling. It probably is nothing serious.

I am also 38 weeks. At this point swelling in the ankles is normal, however if your hands and face are swelling you need to check with your OB ASAP, as this can be a sign of Pre-ecclampsia. One of my friends went through this and almost lost her child. If you are 38 weeks, and are experiencing this, rather than risk your baby or yourself, I would talk to your OB about incuding labor, if they don't bring it up themselves.

I just had my 1st baby in nov. I did not swell until the very end. I was able to wear heels and rings, then suddenly i started swelling and my circulation was bad. It actually got worse after the baby was born. My Dr. actually had to put me on a diuretic for a week after i had the baby. it is normal but talk to your doctor about it anyway, because it could get worse.
