I recently took up card making and now have far more than I need to use. I was wondering how to go about selling them to shops. Are there distribution companies or is it just a case of going round local shops trying to get them to buy?

I make my own cards, but mine are photo cards, I sell hundreds of them. Having said that I have my own shop. I do buy from a lady that makes beautiful hand made ones. You could first of all try selling them on line, get yourself a website or even try e-bay. you could go to some smaller shops and ask if they would be interested in buying from you or even sale or return.
the best of luck

Go round your local shops and take some samples with you. Put an advert in local shops. Take a stall in a market or carboot sale. Let your friends know and then sit back and wait for the orders.

if your cards are of excellent quality, very well made and original why not approach your local newsagents? Go in and ask to see the manager and bring a big selection of your cards with you. Tell him / her that you are willing to put up your display ( if you leave it to them they'll charge you for it! ), are willing to keep it stocked up ( means you;ll have to go in every other day and replace whatever's been sold, in the same line, say if ten birthday cards have been sold - you replace ten birthday cards! ) and then work out a percentage for them to have the cards in their shop. Work it all out before you go in and don't be swayed - you're the one who's put the hard work in, provided the materials and have worn your shoe leather out??? Be realistic though with your prices - no-one is going to pay £4.00 / £5.00 for a card so work out what its cost you to make one card and if it cost, say 80p? sell it for £1.50 /70 bearing in mind that you're going to offer the shop-keeper around 15 /20p on each card they sell. Are there any markets near you? It would be worth looking into how much they charge for a stall / site - then get your wall-paper pasting table out and go sell your wares! Do offers such as buy one get the other half price? Price all your cards with little sticky labels so that you're not constantly being asked " how much is this one"? It will drive you mad and put you off selling anything!!! Best of luck to you mate - very enterprising of you to get off your bum and do something for yourself - well done!!!

It depends where you live, and how much you can supply.
