I'm really starting to doubt myself. I'm homeschooling my daughter, and I know what she's capable of, as far as reading and comprehension. I've seen her read things when she thinks I'm not paying attention. But when it's time to do reading lessons, she likes to sit there and act like she doesn't know how to read at all. She tries to wait for me to give her the answer, but I won't. I just make her sound it out. I've been going over phonics, reading, and spelling with her thorougly ever since she was old enough to understand it, so I'm well aware of what she knows. I don't just sit her in front of a book and expect her to read it without her knowing the basics. I took her out of regular schools, because we're a military family who moves a lot, and I don't want her to get left behind academically, especially since she's having a hard time adjusting. I know that classrooms are significantly larger now, and her teacher may not have time to focus on her not so strong points. I try to set up play dates and things so she and my other children can have friends. I don't shelter them, and I try to make sure they're very well rounded. I just wonder sometimes if I'm doing the right thing, and if any of what I'm teaching is getting through.
