What? You want it to be a dollar a gallon so Americans can just buy even more, and drive even more?

i complain about gas profits, as in big oil and their monopoly on american society

we need to give them the shaft and develop more sustainable technologies....or at least build better cars that are cleaner and use less of it...which is beginning to happen and i have faith that better days are ahead in this regard...

Gas prices are not so much about the cost of oil but the government taxes on it. In Illinois for example, the price of a gallon of gas divides like this: 30% is state taxes, 48.4% is Federal tax. Only 21.6 of what we pay is oil prices.

Also, history has proven that high gas prices do not stop people from driving. The only cure is to find other fuel sources and Big Money Oil (which Republicans tend to support) block this. Finding new sources will most likely solve the Global Warning issue.

Furthermore, do all you Republicans agree on every topic? Don't assume to know what issues I feel strongly about just because I am a Democrat! I know plenty of intelligent Republicans who worry about Global warming and gas prices too.

You are completely 100% off the mark. (Big surprise.)

I have been saying for years that Americans should be paying the REAL price of gasoline, instead of the government-subsidized price we actually pay. Believe me, if the spoiled, stupid, fat Americans were paying $5 and $6 PLUS a gallon (which is what everybody ELSE in the world pays for it) then the general population would have been screaming for ALTERNATIVE ENERGY decades ago.

What I *do* have an issue with is Exxon sucking money right out of my pocket at every whisper of a hint of a breeze of an excuse.

All the Big Oil companies are vultures. Nothing to do with "capitalism" whatsoever. Price gouging, I think they call it.

You're right. But making statements that seem contradictory is not limited to Democrats.

However... what you have here need not be a contradiction. One can want inexpensive fuel (great portions of our economy rely on it), but want it to be used less. For example, "No one should drive, unless they need to. However, if you need to drive, it should be inexpensive to do so."

Let me ask YOU something: would you approve of a huge tax on gas? That'll reduce global warming. Yet, Democrats can't suggest huge gas taxes because too many Republicans would cry foul.

Whoa! You're asking for logic or rationality from the Democrats and their proletariat sheep? Good luck with that!

Of course, Gore, in his book "Earth in the Balance" said that gas should be $5 / gallon to spur conservation and alternative energy sources. The environmentalists should have praised the high gas prices last year; instead, they just used it to bash Bush and the oil companies.

How utterly typical.

Yeah ... Dems are pretty stupid, huh? It's their typical double standard .... like having tolerance forthe Muslims in our country. The Dems are for it, but don't realize that if te Muslims have their way, the most left-wing Dems would be the first ones to get knocked off! lol

I don't complain about gas prices. It's a lot cheaper now than it was a year ago.
