I saw that phrase on a older man's bumper sticker the other day. Yellow dog to me sounds like something you would call a cowardly person, but I don't think that would be something a person would want to call themselves. Anyone know?

Ok, yes now that you mention the truck he was driving a early 90's late 80's model Ford long bed with a camper shell and he looked like he might have been about 60 to 70 years old.

its an old saying that was coined in the south during the time of reconstruction but is not as closely identified as such anymore. The modern meaning... yellow dog democrat, describes a person who is so fiercely loyal a democrat, that if the dems put a yellow dog up to run in an election they would vote for that yellow dog rather than NOT vote democrat..there are also Blue Dog democrats but thats another story

They're southern democrats who believe in alot of the traditional democratic ways such as slavery, no child labour laws, etc. They're basically stuck in the 1800s. Wikipedia would tell you alot about them. They also believe that no one whould buy foreign cars and other products. I bet cha he was riding in a old ford, dodge, or chevy truck. They also are against open borders, but i'm sure you could figure that out. They're the real hardcore racist rednecks.
