I have an acquaintance (not a friend) that brags at any given chance when she is around me. I don't think that she is doing this to others, but I'm not 100% sure. I do try and limit my contact with her as much as possible.
What else can I do? It's so annoying! Is there a way to get her to stop? I try to be sweet and go along with her, but there's something about her thats driving me crazy!

For some reason she seems to be jealous of you; maybe others as well. Confrontation or upstaging her wouldn't do any good so you might as well chalk it up to her being insecure. Anyway, that's the type of attention she would crave. People who brag usually are lacking in some area of social grace so they need to validate themselves by spouting off. So try not to be too annoyed and don't let on that it bugs you. That will only add fuel to her fire. Instead, just nod your head, remain aloof and humor her. Let her wind blow until it blows itself out. If it gets too much just calmly get up and walk away from her. Don't leave her too much chance to get close to you. She's probably desperate for friendship and that may be too much to bear.

most people that brag all the time are usually low on self esteem or insecure. the last thing that you need to do is go along with any one who just likes to brag. you can drop suttle hints on how every thing isn't about her. the last thing that you would want to do it get into a war of words. that would lower you to her level. if her bragging gets to be to much, just politely walk away. she may pick up on this and she may say something about you to others. if she does and it gets back to you, confront her by telling her, nicely, that you do it because her bragging bothers you. she may not realize that she is bragging and then she will have something to think about.

I know a few people like that. This is what I did and it seemed to help me. She is probably trying to make you jealous. When she starts bragging to others in front of you, strike up a conversation with someone else, laugh, and carry on. Completely drown her out. It will continue to get on your nerves and she probably won't stop...try to ignore her. Try to avoid occassions when she is around. Luckily, these people I worked with and I no longer work there anymore.

It could be she envies you, and wants to make herself seem better in your presence. Maybe when she's getting on your nerves try to look at it like a compliment in a way. She may be seeking your approval because you always go along with her. You make her feel better about herself.

To really get your point across if it's that annoying, pity her for trying too hard, she'll stop for sure.

Ask your friend " Do I make you feel that you arnt good enough? I notice that you seem to speak a lot about your achievements when we are together and I want you to know that I think you are ok and you dont need to try to impress me."

baby girl, just remember that bragging is for the lonely people who wants the attention that they lack. "look at me, look at me". just don't let it get to you. you'll find an occation to put her down. but i don't think you're that type of person. so, just giggle inside.

Tell her to shut up and go away. Embarrass her in front of everyone so she'll go away. Sometimes you just have to be blunt and mean. That's how I roll.
