Emo is a subgenre of hardcore punk music. Since its inception, emo has come to describe several independent variations, linked loosely but with common ancestry. As such, use of the term has been the subject of much debate.
In its original incarnation, the term emo was used to describe the music of the mid-1980s Washington, DC scene and its associated bands. In later years, the term emocore, short for "emotional hardcore", was also used to describe the DC scene and some of the regional scenes that spawned from it. The term emo was derived from the fact that, on occasion, members of a band would become spontaneously and strongly emotional during performances. The most recognizable names of the period included Rites of Spring, Embrace, One Last Wish, Beefeater, Gray Matter, Fire Party, and, slightly later, Moss Icon. The first wave of emo began to fade after the breakups of most of the involved bands in the early 1990s.
Starting in the mid-1990s, the term emo began to reflect the indie scene that followed the influences of Fugazi, which itself was an offshoot of the first wave of emo. Bands including Sunny Day Real Estate and Texas Is the Reason put forth a more indie rock style of emo, more melodic and less chaotic in nature than its predecessor. The so-called "indie emo" scene survived until the late 1990s, as many of the bands either disbanded or shifted to mainstream styles.
As the remaining indie emo bands entered the mainstream, newer bands began to emulate the more mainstream style, creating a style of music that has now earned the moniker emo within popular culture. Whereas, even in the past, the term emo was used to identify a wide variety of bands, the breadth of bands listed under today's emo is even more vast, leaving the term "emo" as more of a loose identifier than as a specific genre of music.

Emo doesn't stand for emotional.
It stands for Emotive Hardcore.
Which was shortened to Emocore
Then shortened more to become known as "emo"
Emo doesn't mean "emotional" like most people think. It's a genre and an offshoot of hardcore that was started back in the 80's and pretty much died in the 90's.
You never hear true emo music anymore.
There's no such thing as "AN emo". It's just simply emo. It's a genre and a style and that's it. People who label themselves "emo" are poseurs who just try too hard.
And those who label people "emo" without even knowing what emo really originally stood for are also poseurs.
Cutters are not "emo". Emo stands for emotive HARDCORE and its a genre, not a label.

In this context "scene" has the same application that "social group" would have.. "emo scene" refers to the people/way of life/places to hang out/clothing etc.
scene
–noun
an area or sphere of activity, current interest, etc.: the rock music scene; the fashion scene.
As for what an emo is I have no idea... some American thing?

Emo used to be associated with people wearing black and like you said being a depressive self-harmer, and also liking a particular type of music. However the term has changed slightly to categorise a larger group of teenagers that are into a particular genre of music, but not necessarily depressed and who self-harm. Girls for instance do not have to wear all black to regarded as emo. They can wear bright colours, usually mis-matched clothes but still matching if you get my drift (think Peaches Geldof). The kind of music emo's are supposed to like are My Chemical Romance, Fall Out Boy, Placebo, etc. There has always been terms used to categorise teenegers in to particular groups. For instance, the Mods & Rockers, Teddy Boys, etc. Now we have Chav's and Emo's! it will soon pass and there will be new terms.

emo and scene kind of go together. theyre both part of the same music scene (hardcore music)
but scene kids are like emo kids with more fashion, they usually dress "crazier" or have like a vintage/retro look..
the 2nd part "number 2, fashion clothing" pretty much describes what they look like

(unfortunately, emo has turned into a label)

It's people who are emotional. Alot of emo's cut themselves but you can still dress like them and not harm yourself. They tend to dress a bit punky I think. I have a girl friend who has short hair, piercings and she wears alot of bright colours with black. Kind of like lots of stripes. Think Avril Lavign. They don't just wear strictly black, like Goths. Boys tend to have hair covering their eyes and some wear eyeliner. I like the way they dress, the boys always have baggy trousers and you can see their bums! lol good if they have a nice ars3.

there is no such element as an inherently good human being. There are merely sinners who repented and were truthful and stay truthful with their repentance and their sparkling determination to stop sinning and forestall being so depraved and really seek for holiness it truly is to seek God's personality. each and every thing else will shop on with. the first step is to make a call to drain your self of your huge ego and admit that you're literally not good in any respect and would merely be good by the means of the Holy Spirit. there is no ego in Heaven. delight is truly the mum of all sins and the major clarification why many all and multiple seems going to Hell. they decline to well known their mistake and refused to regulate themselves with assistance from prayer and fasting. quickly until eventually eventually your carnal ideas is switched over to at least something extra attainable and change into extra like God in His personality. through the years, you'll change right into a godly human being, yet not in any respect a good human being. the merely good human being there ever change into change into Jesus Christ Himself. All others, even His earthly mom, Mary change right into a sinner clone of something else persons and he or she isn't to be worshipped or prayed to as she change right into a sinner. no human being except Jesus Christ is to be prayed to. there is no intercessor for people except Jesus Christ the Son of the living God.

I always thought "scene" had something to do with a gay lifestyle, but maybe that's not so. Sorry if that offends you.
