Isn't this just more evidence that the U.S. occupation has no purpose and is an obstacle to peace in Iraq?

Flynn, I think you are being naive. This administration has ALWAYS wanted tension with Iran, just like they wanted tension with Iraq before they invaded it.

This is precisely the point. International conventions, Respect for sovereignty are just an aside to this administration.
What would have happened if it were the other way round? The US are hoping to provoke Iran into some sort of action but that is not going to happen outwardly. What they will do is secretly target the troops and once again the administration puts the men and women at risk.

First off, if you believe everything that the news tells you then you have deluded yourself.
Secondly, We have already had reports of rogue groups going around parts of Iraq that have already posed as the Iraqi militia in order to carry out an attack of somekind. At the moment noone knows who is sponsoring these rogue groups. Granted you have already come up with your explaination, but there are other possibilities. Such as, could these rogue groups have been sponsored by Iran and have now taken the diplomat simply as a method of increasing tensions between the U.S. and Iran? Just a thought.
Obviously someone is trying to stir up the tensions between our two countries. The problem is, is when morons such as yourself attempt to fomet support against the U.S. because of stories such as this one. Granted even *I* don't agree with every policy of the U.S. but I really don't think that the U.S. would *want* increased tension with Iran. We have enough to deal with already.
(Edited Feb 07, 2007): I do believe that someone within the U.S. is trying to stir up these tensions. Not neccesarily the current administration (they haven't helped that's for sure). I personally believe that the people trying to stir up the tensions between us is the people that have the most to gain, namely: Big Business. I don't have any specific names for you, other than the usuals (Rockefeller, Rothschild, Goldman-Sachs), but they seem to be the ones pulling the strings behind the scenes in order to accomplish the goal they want, i.e. more money than they have already and more control than they have already. In any case the idea that the U.S. is behind the kidnapping is very plausible, and the fact that the U.S. has denied it is the obvious statement, but if the U.S. is behind the kidnapping it is most likely not the mainstream military or "public face" of the adminitration that did it. Just my thoughts...

(Heh-heh)...shhhhhh.... top secret!
Please report to your nearest CIA office. I’m sure that they have a job waiting for someone as astute as you. But wait, oh no! You might have to get a hair cut. Never mind!
Aubeyde: “mosad israel. because they always use america to make done their works.”
Sorry, deary, Mossad is busy inside of Iran taking care of some top nuclear scientists. Making sure that they have a good (and long lasting) environment “to make done their works”.
Humanist: ” US are hoping to provoke Iran into some sort of action but that is not going to happen outwardly.”
Right! Because Iran’s support of international terrorism, Hezbollah in Lebanon, providing IED’s to our enemies in Iraq and Iran’s ominous threat to “wipe Israel off the map” just isn’t “outward” enough for us. It doesn’t really put “men and women” at risk. We want them to really do something outwardly provocative like set off an nuclear warhead.
This is why if the liberals ever get the presidency, we are all doomed!

LIBERALS are the threat to peace in the world. The US has denied capturing this diplomat, but it is just like you hippy idiots to take the word of Iran over that of the US.
You are a TRAITOR and the cause of most problems in the world today.

It isn't like the two countries fought a war in the 1980s that left almost a million dead or anything.
