You know what it sounds like to me and I may be wrong, so i am guessing, but it sounds like you are dreaming of childhood drama (abuse), you went thru and survived. If I am right then the dream is reassuring you that you can go on with your life now and the past is in the past, the future of hope is a head of you. Blessings.

You will get multiple answers to this question from the purely biological, such as, dreams are the result of random neuronal activity to the purely classical Freudian interpretations. The first hypothesis doesn't make sense in that, if you have spent a life time patterning your neural net, even a random electrical stimulus will perturb that net in a way that reflects past patterning.
Dreams can be interpreted on multiple levels and from many different viewpoints. Few of these will be "accurate" without knowing what your associations are to elements in the dream, as well as your history, current situation and "day residue" (the experience of the day before that resonated with your personal psychological dynamics. There are no symbols that are translatable across people. Everyone is unique.
Given all that, you are in an ocean, a symbol that in psychoanalysis has referred to issues of dependency, being held, mother, etc. Your aren't drowning but the things that support you are threatening and cold. You were with an "unrecognizable" man with whom you are disagreeing about something. An interesting question would be, if you hadn't been with the man would the ocean have been so inhospitable?
Questions about dreams from analytic point of view consider dreams as wish fulfillments. In this dream, what is the wish? What is the defense against that wish and what is the compromise allowing maximal expression of the wish as well as its prohibition.
Possible meanings:
1) It is difficult to get close to others due to conflicted dependency issues as you never had the experience of being well taken care of.
2) There are these "cold pieces" of autonomy that may be limiting the depth to which you can experience intimacy.
Best of luck. Learn to swim!

Sounds like one hell of a movie idea. The ocean can represent life. It's vastness and beauty, along with the terror that sometimes creeps into it. The storm can mean you are going though a rough patch right now. Some conflicts or problems. The sea life can represent obstacles in your way to finding a solution to the problems you are facing, some more dangerous than others. The man can be an authority figure(or other masculine influence) that you are having difficulty with at this time. Nothing to be afraid of. It sounds like you are meeting the challenge well. Sometimes we have to battle the very ocean itself to get what we want. Good luck.

I would interpret the sea in this dream as life or your life and the waves and floating ice as problems or obstacles. You may be going through a difficult patch and possibly there is someone at work or a friend in your life with whom you've recently had an argument. However, I would still interpret the dream as survival, as you're making it successfully through whatever it may be no matter how hard it may seem. As for the dolphins, well they can only represent something good, maybe other friends who are there for you at the moment.

Water is a deeply spiritual symbol representing the "water of life" or the "flow of life." Large bodies of water usually represent our unconscious minds or/and soul experiences. Water also symbolizes emotions

I feel it's with your sexuality. I mean, you are feeling in danger. And that guy represents your being gay.
