no, it's generalizing. A lie is a statement that is not true. A generalization is a statement that leaves out details. By nothing, you meant nothing significant or worth mentioning. That's not a lie.

I suppose technically it is but it could also be a figure of speech. When i am on the computer messing around i look at that as nothing. To be honest i would have just said i jumped on the computer for a minute. It should not be a big deal.

It's a little white lie. Don't sweat it. I often say I'm doing nothing when in fact, I'll be doing the dishes or sweeping the floor....it's harmless stuff.
That's just my opinion. I honestly believe everyone has told a lie or two at some point in their lives. It's the big, life changing, secretive, hurtful lies we have to worry about. Not one's such as these.

Yes, because you played a game on the computer, which made it awkward for the guest that you were away so long.

Its not lying because we know that being on the computer really doesnt mean anything unless you were conversating with someone then that is something. If it were that you were just checking your e-mails no big deal

Not really...if you said it like "Nothing," really fast. And then with a big fake sigh "ok...caught me, i was on the computer" it would be cute. But its not a lie..being on the computer for a couple minutes IS doing nothing. Just, next time tell him NOT MUCH.

It is called a little white lie. Doesn't mean anyone is going to get hurt but if it isn't 100% truth then it is considered a lie

Yes and no. More like "nothing useful" rather than "nothing".
We are almost never doing actually "nothing". What we really mean is "nothing useful" or "nothing significant. Just farting around counts, more or less, as nothing.
I suppose it's technically a lie, but wow - a tiny one, I think.

A small one but yes, an untruth is a lie. You said nothing when in fact you were doing something.
