ı know vespucci, ı mean the mean of word ?

One alternative, first advanced by Jules Marcou in 1875 and later recounted by novelist Jan Carew, is that the name America derives from the district of Amerrique in Nicaragua. The gold-rich district of Amerrique was purportedly visited by both Vespucci and Columbus, for whom the name became synonymous with gold. According to Marcou, Vespucci later applied the name to the New World, and even changed the spelling of his own name from Alberigo to Amerigo to reflect the importance of the discovery.

Another theory, first proposed by a Bristol antiquary and naturalist, Alfred Hudd, in 1908 was that America is derived from Richard Amerike, a merchant from Bristol, who is believed to have financed John Cabot's voyage of discovery from England to Newfoundland in 1497 as found in some documents from Westminster Abbey a few decades ago.

Assuming you mean the continents, it was named in honour of Amerigo Vespucci. And he was an Italian explorer working for Spain then Portugal after that, I think. They didn't use his surname because it was easier to latinise his first name. He didn't name it after himself though, if I remember correctly it was some cartographer. And I'm not very sure but they probably chose him instead of Columbus because he didn't think it was Asia. Which Columbus did his whole life.

edit: Sorry overlooked the stuff you added... I heard about the Ameriqque theory, think it's meaning has something do to with wind?

Maybe you could visit http://www.uhmc.sunysb.edu/surgery/america.html? It seems quite detailed.

America is a continent. It's named after the guy who allegedly discovered it. His name was Americo. He was Spanish, I think.

It was named after an explorer, Americo Vesvucious. I'd guess he was from Spain.

Absolutely sickening. You two idiots don't even know who our country is named after. His name was Amerigo Vespucci, and he was Italian - not Spanish.

No wonder our country is going straight to hell - we can;t even educate our young. Sad, really sad.
