Personally I think well of Americans, even though I also think that your culture has degenerated to a somewhat sad state at the moment. I like the ideals that America had during and right after the second world war, when it was still the bright, leading star of the world.
I also think that America is still neccesary to help out around the world, doing the kinds of jobs most people don't want to. Although I think that the resources in the middle east would be put to better use civilizing the African continent and freeing its peoples from their dictators and showing them what democracy is really about.
America provides an economic stability for most of the world, although not as much as before, it's still there. So whether or not people like it; America's needed, but also in need of an overhaul.
There's not much left of the nobility of spirit once gracing the American people and the ideal of America itself, which saddens me, remembering my father's stories of how it was when Allied soldiers went through Denmark, having disarmed the Nazi troops around the country. We need that America back more than ever now.

In short? I love America, but I wouldn't live there. Not now.

You never know what you are going to get, here in the US. A redneck may be a true intellectual while someone posturing as one, may be a stoned out idiot who is repeating what someone else in his clique just repeated from a third. Sadly, America could be the closest thing to utopia but that would require people to turn off their television sets which is unheard of here. Most people sit around and ***** and don't do a thing. This is why the government does whatever the corporations demand of them. We are not a democracy like the media keeps telling the world. We, the people, have NO say in government. Almost 100% of congress are millionaires while the rest of us celebrate if we get a job that pays a livable wage. Most of us are heavily in debt because we cannot afford to just go out and buy a car yet we are forced to since the bus service is terrible in all but a few cities. The house, the appliances, the clothes, the car....all are bought on borrowed money since most of us do not make enough. Yet congress throws money overseas as if it is worthless.

Who are truly to blame? The large bulk of Americans who are more concerned with American Idol than America.

Being raised in America, there seems to be a lot of distractions and craziness, mostly all in the quest for the almighty dollar. If ever there was a "godless" country, America would seem to be it. The benifit of all this though, is that it gives the individual the opportunity to recognize these snares and adjust one's life accordingly.

We're not as Eurocentric as we used to be, which is good---this is a global society and we happen to be on top at the moment. I'm guessing that's because we have at least one person from every nation on earth here. It's an expression of hybrid vigor.
