What's the difference between 2048MB [512x4] and 2048MB [1024x2]?

The difference is how the memory is packaged. If you have a choice of upgrading your memory, you would be better off with 2 (boards) of memory of 1024. Most times there are 4 slots for expanding your memory. So if you use the two memory boards you will still have 2 slots remaining if you wanted to increase your memory in the future. Whereas if you use four boards of 512, all of the slots will be used up.

I hope this helps.

I think there is no difference. With 1024 x2, there are only 2 bars of ram, with 512 x4, there will be 4 bars...
the only difference i can say is... with 512 x4, it occupy more of your ram slots on your motherboard...

It is alot more efficient if you use the former 4X512 compared to the 2x1024, of course at the expense of your RAM slots.
