Chromosomes are long,thread like structures found in the nuclei of the all cells. They consist of one molecule of DNA(Deoxyribonucleicacid),which control or directs the activities of the cell.DNA is arranged in units called genes.these genes carry characteristics of the parents to their off-springs.

A chromosome contains DNA. The X and Y chromosomes determine the sex of a mammal. I don't know about other animals. Each person normally has one pair of sex chromosomes in each cell. Females have two X chromosomes, and males have one X and one Y chromosome.

The chromosomes are made of genes which are mad of DNA. They carry all the gentic material for the new generations. They also direct the repair and growth of the body as they are the genetic material to each new cell.

there are 22 sets of autosomes and 1 set of sex chromosomes(which determine one's gender)... and XY chromosomes are the sex chromosomes... until now i dont think there is any z chromosomes, but science is always advancing and there might be a discovery of a z chromosome someday...
