How long have men been getting down on a knee to ask a girl for her hand? I think its funny that they do that now considering that in the past they would just meet with the dad and HAGGLE over a price for her...

the ancient and modern behaviours are not the same, in the past a man can just meet a girls dad and everything is settled. but now a guy has to meet the one he wants to get married to, no matter how long it takes him to commit her.

You are quite right. Going down on knees has been considered a conventional way of marriage proposal. But you hardly find any man doing it for you these days.

Modern men varies....some takes a year...some takes years. This is because in the modern world, the guy chooses his own brides, and parents are usually not involved during the courtship, some men will take their own sweet time to propose....It's all about how ready he is to settle down.

I find the old fashion way better- I am such a sentimental, my sister's boyfriend asked her to marry him , he got down on one knee - proposed at a parking lot! It was so romantic- maybe not the place but just the gesture.
