I'm about to turn 18, and I'm thinking about getting my nose pierced, but I have a really low tollerance for pain and I'm scared. It's something that I've wanted to do for a while, so I'm really excited about it, but now that it's coming up, I'm worried about how much it will hurt. Half the people I talk to say it doesn't hurt, but I feel like they're just telling me that to look tough or something, and then the other half says that it does hurt. I'm really afraid of needles too. Oh, and how long do you have to leave it in before you can switch the stud? I like to change things often! Well, if you have any advice for me, please let me know.
Thanks,
Christi!

I have had mine for about 9 years. Now, I have never heard of getting your nosed pierced with a gun, you cannot go to some little boutique at the mall to have it done. You need to go to a good piercer. Do not fall for a cheap price, that doesn't mean the best piercer or good jewelry. I will say it hurt, but just for a minute. Do not be scared to do it. More than likely it is one of those things that the thought hurts worse than actually doing it. But keep in mind, before doing it that most "professional" jobs will not allow it, and nowadays some aprt-time jobs will ask you to cover it up.

I once had my tongue pierced when i was 16. I took it out because I got sick of the comments. Then I got my nose pierced at 18. I am terrified of needles, too. My first advice is dont look at the needle..at all. It doesn't feel good but it doesn't make you want to scream, its like a bee sting, it lasts for not even a minute. The tongue I didn't feel any pain at all. I don't remember how long until you can change it, but when you do it is very uncomfortable unless you wait for a while. My second word of advice is, do not get a nose ring that looks like an earing stud, there is a ball at the end that is bigger than the hole, and when you put it in you have to shove it through and when you take it out you have to pull it out, except I couln't get it out so I had to go back to the piercing salon and get it taken out. Get the salon to pierce it with a "hook: ring it looks like a twisted piece of metal but only the part that goes in your nose. I took it out for a job, it is not professional, I do miss it though. I had it for maybe 6 months. If you leave it in for a long time you will have a scar. Good luck.

So far what everyone has told you is true. first thing is that if you really want something get it done, because other wise your going to keep thinking about, getting it done. secondly im 25 now but when i got my nose pierced i was 12 and at that time they used a gun, and when i got my monroe done the lady asked how did they do my nose, and i told her with a gun, and she said the gun is unsanitary which it is. the needle is more effective and the gun you should probably stay away from. because when i got mines done after a week the back of the earing was so tight, my nose ring was piercing through my skin, and trying to fall into my nose...and as far as sneezing, blowing your nose, and breathing, come on now people lets get realistic. Stuff that you do to your body you are able to adapt to it ok!! so you will be able to blow your nose, breath etc etc. but the key thing is to keep everything sanitary, so it wont get infected, and also i wouldnt change my nose ring for about 2 months, its ok to change it to a different stud, but dont do the hoop ring for about 6 months ok.

My daughter had it done and she said it didn't hurt, and she is a really big baby about pain...you have to wait to change it as long as you would for your ears and clean it the same way at first. she just got a really small stud...I hate to say it but I actually think it kind of cute...she has a cute nose...I think people with not so great noses should avoid the piercing...it draws attention to it...go for it...good luck.

so its like this christi. if you get it done with a needle then it will hurt, but its still worth it. and if you get it done with a gun (like with an ear pierce) then it stings but then its over. either way the pain isn't unbearable and with the needle when you choose to get rid of the pierce, there will be less scarring. oh, and with the needle its more sanitary!!! if pain is your one concern then get the gun, but if a gun isn't offered in your local tattoo parlor or if you don't want the scar, then the needle isn't deathly painful, its just something to cognitively prepare yourself in advance for. have fun, i love mine.
