This is a very profound question.....
I spent most of my first 12 years in parochial schools, and I should have, an easy answer. I don't!!! I liked up the definitions and everything it says I agree with.
I am saddened by the fact that I can't answer this on my own. I could, but, It would be very inadequate. Maybe I need to pay more attention to myself and my sins...
I sincerely hope this is a thoughtful insight for you.

I believe sin originates in the mind of others. You said "us" I say "them" Sin is something that seems to only have originated from religion.

Adam and Eve sinned in the Garden of Eden many years ago, so we inherited sin. It ranges from knowing that something is bad and still doing it, cheating, "bad" behavior, etc. It started with religion, I think.

Sin originated when Adam and Eve first disobeye God and took of the tree of life. That is why we are born into sin. We "inheirit" it in a way. To be forgiven of our sins we have to be saved (born again).

As far as I'm concerned, the idea that everyone is born loaded with "sin" is pure nonsense. Its an old mind control ploy adopted by quack preachers to intimidate the weak minded.
Don't believe it.
