Well, this is a question under the psychology topic, and I think what you’re looking for is what is called, “open-ended” questions. Particularly done in therapy sessions, you start out with using a verb in your question. “Tell me about yourself” or “Explain your thinking – where you’re coming from in this situation”. Using a verb to start out with in stating your question in sentence is a great help to get more feedback than “yes” or “no”.
