Can I still use a certified/official check if it's ripped?

I ordered an official check from my bank and accidentally ripped it while opening the envelope. There is a 1.5 inch tear in the bottom left corner. I need the check to apply for a visa, do you think they'll still take it if it's ripped?

call the company and make sure.... but uh... why are you giving a visa card a certified check to apply for a visa?

they don't usually make you give them money to apply.... are you sure you aren't getting scammed?
