I breastfed for the first few days of pregnancy and am still producing milk(sort of) even though I now bottle feed. Is it too late to try to breastfeed again?

Call a lactation consultant right now. They are angels! Also, find your area La Leche League leader. She will give you phone support. Don't be intimidated. These are women who think your baby deserves the best and know how to help you both. Breastfeeding is hard at the beginning, and you need help. In generations past, experienced mothers helped new moms get a good start. We don't have that kind of support network now. This website has instructions on finding a leader. Best of luck to you. You can do it!

Get that baby on the breast! But first and foremost, call La Leche League. They are available 24 hours a day, free of charge, and are very knowledgable and helpful. You will probably need help, since your baby has been on the bottle and the sucking motions involved with breastfeeding are very different from those on the nipple of a bottle. Your baby might get confused and need a little help getitng on the breast. On the other hand, some babies switch back and forth just fine with no problems. In any case, don't assume that your baby doesn't want the breast or can't take to it just because he/she is having trouble latching on. That's what LLL (or a lactation consultant) is for! They can help you through it, and I guarantee you, it will be well worth it. Breastmilk is soooo good for your baby!! Congratulations on deciding to try it again, and good luck!

No, it's fine to give it another try. Just make your baby comfy, be patient and the natural instinct should help it along. HOpe it works for you! Good for you that you want to try again.
