Hi,

I have a question about hiring foreigners. Last week, one guy applied for a position I am offering and he mentioned he is a permanent resident eligible to work with a social security #. Now then, he seems like a nice individual to hire though I have some doubts. As far as I know, some foreign fellows are able to get fake SS cards and IDs. I would not mind integrating this guy into my crew as long as he REALLY is authorized to work here in the US. Does anybody know what is the procedure to check on his eligibility to work? What else should I be aware of?

Thanks

If he meets the requirements on the I9 you are required to fill out with legitimate documents, he's legal and that is the extent of your responsibilty

what you do is call the social security office and have them check the number and the name to see if they match they will tell you if its fake or not , they do that at my job too and 90% of the time they are fake.i would check into it before hiring or else you can be fined .

Firstly chech his ID's and ask to take photocopies then inform him as with all potential employees you will be making checks on his identity.Contact your social security office or home office and make the checks, with terrorism nowadays you must.

Contact INS to see if they are here legally.

Cover your butt. They will come after you with fines if you don't hire a legal.
