i have the same problem.
it is the mediterranean here so it is not that cold .. just abit chilly and i found out that my hands remain purple even if i put on gloves.
it is all due to bad circlation (im only 20 btw)
the best thing that works is exercise just some fast walking or some jumping jacks twice a day.
rubbing them with some cream may also aid to get the circulation going.
heating them relaxes the blood vessels inur hands so they widen a bit allowing more blood to come in. in the cold blood vessels constict so that less heat energy is lost.

It sounds like impaired circulation. As it gets colder, your blood vessels retreat, and shut down to allow more blood to circulate in your body. Therefore your extremities get cold. You could also have Reynauds Syndrome, in which your extremities, lose circulation. This is evinced by the fingers and hands turning blue and then white in cold areas. Having this myself, I can lose feeling in the cold section of a super market in August.

it's cause when it gets cold, your body keeps most of your blood in your core to keep your organs warm. to do this it takes blood away from your arms, legs etc, so these areas get cold and can turn blue/purple etc. nothing to worry about, really

Limbs tend to have poor circulation, especially when cold. Thus, purple hands, feet, etc.....

Lack of circulation down there; it's a bad thing. Keep it up and you could get frostbite, and nobody wants that to happen.

That is a symptom of a condition known as Raynaud's Phenomenon. It is something that can be serious. Please check with a doctor as soon as you can.
I looked up a web site to give you more information...

Take a look. And, like I asked, please follow up with a physician.
