Check the media player settings

Choose a folder which is normally on desktop or on hard disk which is quickly available to PC.

In windows media, have you done an update lately?

If you have check in your settings to see which format it's ripping to.
Also check to see what the bitrate is. Remember that FM radio is only 128, and your ears won't tell the difference over 192.

Cheers
