From a biological sense it is good for you -- increases healthy sperm count (and thus fertility) over time, since sperm being held overlong in the body becomes weaker; decreases the chances of Prostatis and apparently (study results await additional replication) reduces the chance of Prostate cancer almost in half over if done regularly (pretty much daily or more often).
Socially and morally, no one but a few fanatics care -- and they are sad people who have no comprehension of real life.
There are no negative effects from masturbation, only positive ones -- and pleasure. Let go of the guilt that you were taught by people who didn't know any better, and enjoy yourself.

Not in the least. Many people please themselves.
In a lot of social circles it is frowned upon. Morally for those that have very strong religious convictions, like some fundamentalists.
But in the grand scheme of things, go right ahead and enjoy yourself in the privacy of your own room.

the only people that think it is wrong are certain religions that feel that orgasms should only occur during penis-to-vagina sex among married couples..
