Get a newspaper of the day the baby was born. Save it in plastic and give it to the child when s/he turns 18.

Get someone to throw a baby shower; put a pink or blue balloon on the mailbox, design the nursery, make a scrapbook, send out an e-mail with the unfortunate newborn photo where mom is exhausted and baby is... well... a newborn.

My husband took out an ad announcing her arrival in the local newspaper for the very next day. we cut it out to put it in our baby book.

Someone I know got mini Hershey candies with "It's a boy" wrappers on them. I don't know where she got them. I think she even had the baby's name and birthweight printed on them.
