The coolant level in the reservoir seems to be dry. However, the temperature gauge is not indicating overheating. The outside temperature where I live is -5 deg F this morning. I had the mechanic replace the water pump yesterday !

Is it stuck in 2nd gear?
Does the speedometer work?
Is the Check Engine light on?

If the answer to #1 and #3 is yes, and to #2 no then you likely have a faulty Output Speed Sensor. These are cheap and easy to replace and a common failure point on Dodge vehicles. When they fail the PCM stops getting RPM data from the transmission so it goes into "limp mode" and locks itself into 2nd gear. This can be confirmed with a diagnostic scanner.

Maybe your transmission fluid is frozen?

Check the coolant level in the radiator. At -5, the engine should cool down fairly quickly.

The tranny fluid is warmed by passing it through the radiator. If the coolant level is too low in the radiator, the engine won't overheat immediately but the tranny fluid won't come up to operating temperature either.
