sometimes that umbilical cord stump has a way of flipping over on itself and we don't always get the underside as clean... it almost looks like it would hurt the baby.... but, what you describe? it almost sounds like it is infected.... ? that happened to my first daughter... didn't seem to matter that I cleaned it every time I changed her.... the thing was twisted and knotted and looked so painful that I just cleaned it quickly and ended up missing part of the underside....

I can not say positively, but I think hernias are under the skin.... I have what my dr said is one left over from one of my pregnancies... it is just a lump, under the skin... can't even see it... he said that it was seperated stomach muscles.... but there was no "bubble" that is usually infection...

I think you might want to clean it up and then call the dr. describe it over the phone and request an appointment immediately! only a few weeks old she will need antibiotics to clear it up as quickly as possible....
good luck

You have got to be kidding me, who in their right mind pierces a FOUR year olds belly button?!?! No one I know. Anyway, I think you should be spending more time playing with your four year old and less time here on answers. You've only been a member for 21 days and your already a level 4? That is a lot of time on here. By the way I think you are most likely not a mom, no mom would do this??? And all your questions are private, why is that???

Well my cousins baby had something like that and it ended up being a hernia from him crying because he had colic. But my best advise...call your doctor immediately don't freak out just talk to the nurse and find out suggestions they may want to see her. Hang in there its a scary thing to go through but you will be fine

it sounds like an umbilical hernia my son had one i was told by the dr that it was fine unless it went hard and you couldnt push it in . you should still take your baby to the dr and get it checked out in case its something else. try not to panic about it if it is a hernia its quite common

I am almost sure that it is, but don't worry just show the doctor, she will probably have to have a small op to get rid of it. It will most probably look bigger when she crys as it will stick out more.

Why are you asking us? You need to get your baby to the doctors ASAP! Didn't they tell you that if anything funny happens with the umbilical area to get it checked out? This could be serious!

Get off the computer and go.
