"Dubai is not cheap. Everything there costs a fortune"
Compared to UK, it isn't really more expensive. Clothes, electrical goods, etc are about the same price as the UK, BUT food, drinks, groceries, and even taxi's are much much cheaper. So if you need to eat out at night you shouldnt need to spend too much. My family and I went last summer and it was a great experience. Since it's february it shouldn't be too hot there (in the summer temperature goes crazy high).
There are a lot of cool shopping centres such as the Deira one, Mall of Emirates, and Ibn Batuta. But as well as this, there's plenty market areas where you can get cheaper stuff. You should also check out the area where the Burj al arab hotel, wild wadi water park, jumeirah beach are. We went to the water park there and it was great, but I don't think it's that cheap. Admittedly when we went there was a lot we didn't see, but look online for some more info.

I have family who live over there and I often go to visit them. Being a student I try to keep spending to a minimum when I am over there. There's plenty of things to do without spending a fortune; the gold souks, the beaches (not near Jumeriah as there's a lot of construction going on around here), the indoor ski slope, driving out to the desert/mountains, the old town, getting a boat down the creek, plenty of shopping centres and good restaurants etc. It entirely depends on what you want to do, and being Dubai, you'll probably be able to do what you want. Have a fantastic time and I hope you enjoy it.

Dubai is not cheap. Everything there costs a fortune. I guess you can walk about the desert for free or maybe a camal ride, everything else is not cheap at all. There's an Irish bar in Dubai that has the cheapest beer, I can't recall the name but it is the only Irish bar there so it shoul be easy to find.

Dubai si a lovely city, many things to do, but as everybody said it is very expensive.
There are a lot of places to see, very nice malls , the best is Ibn Batuta mall, which is a must see, it is really lovely, ( have your camera with you)
Emirates mall is also nice, lots of nice shops
Madinat Jumeira is a must see also, you can just walk around and look around, or you can have a cup of coffee.
Marina walk, it is lots of restaurants and coffee shops near the sea.
Enjoy your stay in Dubai
