The screen just blinks on and off. Sometimes I have to open and close several times until I get a good position and it remains on.
Why!?
How can I fix that?!
The model is an Acer 5102.

As with all laptops, there is a cable between the screen and the base, unfortunately its usually hidden in the hinge mechanism for the lid, and everytime you open and close the laptop it gets flexed. What often happens is it starts to tear or perforate and eventually will fail altogether. My advice is to let a qualified technician have a look at it. IT@tonicweb.co.uk

It's either because there is a loose connection on the screen backlight switch (you need an engineer to repair this) or it's a symptom of you not fully shutting down the PC before closing it's lid.

It sounds more likely that it will be the switch.

Some laptops go into 'sleep' mode when the screen is closed.
Thus hibernating the PC in a shuting down process.
The next time the PC is switched on it comes out of hibernation and then completes the shutdown process. Hence the appearance of the screen coming on and then back off again.
I've seen this quite a few times!

Is your laptop still under warranty? Worth checking.
Some have 1 to 3 year warranties.

If it's the switch and you need to pay an engineer to fix it, you may consider buying a new Laptop. To fix this little problem may cost between £100-£250

These days for £339 you can buy a new one with 12 months
warranty and probably better spec.

The reed switch is failling. That is a magnetic trigger that tells the operating system when the lid on your laptop opens and closes. You cant fix it yourself you need a new reed switch and there a pain in the *** to replace. Just go to power managment in control panel, and in one of the tabs and there is an option where you can make it so nothing happends when you close the lid to your portable

If its going crazy on its own then its probably the cable that the LCD hooks to the motherboard is loose.. Reseat it and see what happends.. If problem still happends, hook up an external monitor and see if its happening with that monitor too. If it is happening w/ external monitor its a prob with your vid adapter most likely. If not then its a problem with your LCD, probably needs replaced..

You said screen ....blanks off..Does that mean disconnected from power? when you start again does start from begining? If so than it is power matter. Perhaps the loose contact where your mains adapter goes. Also what about when battery is fully charged up? Does it blanks off? If not than it is as I stated above. The other issue is to reinstall the operating system but is the problem is to do with power than reinstalling wont solve it.
