There's a big difference between being ok and just happening. if it were ok then cases such as the one that was just prosecuted in San Diego wouldn't even go to trial. No, it's not ok to bash anywhere in the US, but that doesn't stop it from happening on occasion.
If by bashing you mean allowing the morons from the Westboro Baptist Church to pubicaly pursue their antics, well yes that is ok. Free speech is a double edged sword, and I'll defend their right to be as stupid as they want to be verbally, but the moment they cross the line with threats of personal assault as opposed to their babbling about what G-d hates is the moment that it is not ok, it is criminal.

Because in America, individual freedom is prized above all else so unfortunately, the individual has the right to bash, mind you it is important to note that gays are the only target they'e still allowed to do that to. If they were to say the same things about Blacks, Jews, Women, etc that they do about gays, they'd be in trouble. It is one of the last allowable bigotries.

It isn't OK. The only gay bashers are the ones who post on the net and protest at AIDS rallies and the look like complete idiots doing so which make other people with common sense look down upon them

Because most of America has proven (by voting in George Bush) that they're republican close-minded bigoted frumps who have nothing better to do (because half of them don't work) than to bash other people that have different, but seemingly better lives than they do.

I think it's because of the religious zealots out there that raise all kinds of noise about us. We see it all the time on YA. The world is the same way. They can't stand the idea that someone might live without the zealots to guide them. We need to be protected from ourselves. After all we don't know anything, and they know it all.

Apparently it's not, but it seems okay for them to bash us and be hostile toward us if we have questions or concerns.
