...or use proper grammer. I'm not an English major, but then again this is not brain surgery. Did you learn nothing in high school English? (or are you not in high school yet?) There was a similar question posed and the best response chosen was that this is an "informal" discussion. I agree, but when you see questions like "i car way high down red street why boyfriend?" I have to step back and go "What!?".

90% of the people here are from India (where English is a second language). That says a lot.

I have a couple of theories:

1) Some/many English teachers were not taught proper usage in the first place (or their learning of proper usage was faulty). As a consequence, their students who became English teachers propagated incorrect usage by teaching incorrect usage to their own students.

2) Movies, television, and the Internet have largely contributed to improper usage. When those who do not know the difference encounter poor or incorrect usage, they assume that usage to be correct - and pass it on to others. For example, remember the flap some years ago about a Rolaids commercial? (Q: How do you spell relief? A: R-O-L-A-I-D-S). A survey found that MANY grade-school children truly believed that relief was spelled R-O-L-A-I-D-S.

Addendum: Typographical errors are another contributing factor.

True.
Worse still why is it that people on this site want to tell me what they're having for lunch today and do I think that's nice?
And I'm also getting pi.... off with people not so much asking a question as setting an exam paper or expecting me to write out an entire encyclopaedia.
'Family and Relationships' are the worst.
'Does my boyfriend love me'??
How the hell does anyone here know..or care.
'Should I leave the man that's beating me up every night?'
Why would you want to stay?
Food and drink are good value for a laugh too.
'I've bacon and eggs in my fridge. What can I cook?
Should there be a basic intelligence test to qualify for getting into this?.P.S.
Just on now...
Why do the shells keep sticking to the shell when I har (sic) boil eggs?
Can you tell me what the hell this person is going on about?

Ha! I agree with you completely! Listen to this question:

"Who taught up about Kool Aid? Waz yur best flaver, mines is scrawberry."

Who says this crap? When I told him that his question confused me, this guy had the nerve to say that I probably get confused about alot of things. I answered: Only bad spelling and punctuation confuses me. What is with these people?

I can see your point on proper grammar, it is usually horrible.

The spelling is from people just answering questions very fast and not checking their spelling.

I mean, I am already bored with answering this question, do you think I am going to spell check it?>
