First off...spell check!

There are great J - Schools, but that isn't an automatic road-map to success. It might open doors, but the big thing is getting a cross-section of education. Many journalists have liberal arts and political science backgrounds.

A lot depends on goals. Are you looking at broadcast, Internet, newspapers, all? Every small newspaper in US is looking to have stringers cover local news events too small to send a reporter to, so it's relatively easy to get a little experience.

Persevere, because a lot of doors will close, but keep working at it and you will find it a rewarding career.
