If you're compiling your own list, I can give you a couple of suggestions;
Frank Black (Pixies then solo then Frank Black and the Catholics then solo again then Pixies whilst still recording solo)
Billy Corgan (The Marked then Smashing Pumpkins then Zwan then solo, now Smashing Pumpkins again)
Bob Mould (Husker Du then solo then Sugar then solo)
Iggy Pop (formerly Iggy and the Stooges)
Wayne Kramer (formerly MC5)
Pete Shelley (formerly Buzzcocks)
TV Smith (formerly The Adverts)
Paul McCartney (errmm?)
George Harrison (likewise)
David Bowie (solo then Tin Machine (ha!) then solo again)
Paul Weller (The Jam then Style Council then solo)
Richard Ashcroft (formerly The Verve)
Gwen Stefani (formerly No Doubt)
Sid Vicious (formerly Sex Pistols)
Nick Cave (The Birthday Party, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds then solo).
The late great Joe Strummer
There are loads really aren't there? Good luck.
