hi there!

Purpose of test case is to know whether the system is completely and accurately functioning. In this case, there is a lot of test to be done to find errors in system and the hardest part is to debug it. That is why the test case is included, it is way of checking and validating the system.

Hope that will help. Good day!

I have 20 years in network test management at prominent companies in Silicon Valley

A test case is a discrete experiment.

It has pre-conditions (inputs, data configuration), execution operations, and expected result (pass criteria).

It may be manually or automatically executed. To help determine coverage, there should be linkages between product requirements and test cases (requirements tracing). Test "sufficiency" (coverage sufficient for your quality objectives) is established in one or more test plans. Solution test, system test (reliability, useability, performance, startup/shutdown, etc), feature test plan, unit test plan.

Generally considered the atomic level of the test hierarchy
- Test libraries
- Test suites
- Test cases

Some people talk about sub-test-cases. These are more properly described as test suites (containing test cases)
