I am from NY - born in Brooklyn - and I go home every year. Guiliani cleaned up the city. The reason big retailers went in is that the small personal retailers can't afford the rent - that is not his fault. He was a good Mayor and would make a great President.

I am in the NY area. He did what people said was impossible - cleaned up NY. He made a lot of enemies, and is deemed somewhat undiplomatic and hard-headed, but he got a lot done. The crime rate dropped, drastically.
He refused to meet with Al Sharpton, and treated Arafat like the pariah he was.
He works hard and went after wasteful spending too.
And yes, he was a stready and decisive leader on 9/11. Witness Nagin in N.O. - not everyone can do it.
He is too liberal on social issues for the Republican base, but America could do much worse than having Rudy as president.
PS I agree with the poster below - NY seems a bit too "suburban" now, with chain stores, etc. Times Square now has a fair number of shops found in any suburban mall. But again, it's better than the live sex shows, boarded up storefronts, filthy streets, panhandlers and drug addicts, etc. we had. Maybe the big stores are the only ones with the resources to keep people coming in sufficient numbers to make it all work, financially. Feeling safe taking your family for a walk down the street is a good start!!!

Well, he did improve the city's financial situation, but a lot of New Yorkers (myself included) felt that some of the things he did regarding commercial real estate destroyed some of the city's character. Sorry, but chain stores don't belong on St. Mark's Place.
One thing I will give him huge credit for: Of all the politicians parading before the cameras on 9/11, he was the only one that didn't come across as an opportunistic phoney.

I'm from NY, Rudy won't make it through the GOP nomination process because he believes in gay rights, abortion rights, and anti-handgun control. It's totally contrary to the Republican platform. He'll lose by Super Tuesday. He was an excellent mayor, in spite of 9-11. He was successful overall, and cleaned up Broadway, Times Square, did away with smut shops, drug dealers, etc. Crime dropped. He did a good job. I think he should run as a 3rd party candidate if he loses out.

He looks terrible in drag.
He's got a hot wife though. I'd hit that.
President Giuliani will do a great job.

I personally dont like him. He is hard headed and kind of mean. I dont think he could win a presidential election or even the republican nominations, and I don think he could carry the "bible belt" - while he was in office he had an affair and he moved his girlfr into the mayor's mansion and tossed his wife out. I dont think the chrisitian conservative base is going to go for that.
He gets alot of credit for something that had to do w 911 - I am still trying to figure out what he did - other than give alot of speaches standing next to cops & firemen - the ones that actually did something.

He killed 3000 americans, he destroyed all the evidence in 911. He is a horrible person who is going to hell when he dies. I hope he goes to jail.
