i know youre always supposed to use the lowest absorbancy to prevent toxic shock - but can you still get it even if you always use tampons and have never had tss? - the leaflets in the boxes dont really say anything about getting it when youve used them before and been fine
they just seem like a great alternative to panty liners any time of the month and i wondered if that was a bad idea and why

You can get TSS any time regardless of how long you've been using tampons - its caused by an infection of Staphyococcus aureus which get into the blood stream. Using tampons gives the bacteria better conditions in which to grow, which is why they recommend not using them overnight, although I aways have. Definitely NEVER use tampons when you are not on your period though - they will only be very uncomfortable as they will absorb all available moisture. You'll also be more liable to infections such as thrush.

The reason tampons carry the TSS warning is because women who use them were found to have a higher risk of developing it.
You can get it even if you don't use tampons though.
And it's like anything - just because you haven't had it before, doesn't mean it'll never happen...
If you use tampons when you don't have your period you are prone to all sorts of problems. If you absorb your natural fluids then you can cause discomfort and maybe thrush.
If you have such excessive discharge that a panty liner is not sufficient while you don't have your period, then perhaps you should get that checked out...
Tampons were made purely for periods and should be used only for them!!

you should never use tampons when not on your period, it would increase your chances of tss, if you read the insert in a box of tampons it quite clearly tells you that you can reduce the risk of tss by replacing one tampon per day (during your period) with a sanitary towel (read insert in tampax compack).
also by using tampons all day every day your turning your turning your vagina into a breading ground for irritation and infections such as thrush,if your finding discharge a problem maybe look at changing your bathing habbits, use a femmanine wash instead of soap, this helps prevent disrupting your ph balance down there (try avons simply delicate) if your daft enough to think about using a tampon every day, maybe you've been washing your little tiger with shampoo for frizzy hair? sorry!

You shouldn't be wearing tampons unless you have your period.... Causes infections and such. Our bodies aren't meant to have a foreign object in it all the time. Even during my period, I alternate between tampons and pads. How can you be pushing and pulling down there all month? Defenitely not a good idea....

Are you saying that you want to use tampons when you are not on your peroid because of discharge? If you are getting enough discharge to mean you need a tampon all month I would just go get checked out at the doctors.
Tampons are only to be used for when you are bleeding, not at any other time of the month. It is too risky.

To minimize your risk of TSS, do not use tampons until your period begins. Do not use them as a precaution because you expect your period to start on a given day, or to control other types of discharge.

Why in the world would you wear a tampon when you dont have to? Firstly, it is a health risk, you increase your chances of getting TSS. Secondly, it would be cripplingly uncomfortable. Thirdly, it is not clean or hygenic to keep yourself blocked up for no good reason.

well i don't know if you'll have any side effects but consistent pushing of tampoons up there can as well reduce the elasticity of the vagina. But why would you use it if you're not in your period sisnce it's made for that. just find panty liners.
