I ask you who can afford more, the people that have raped the system or the people that struggle to make ends meet. Actually the middle and upper middle class pay more in taxes regardless of what Rush Limbaugh said, it is just by shear numbers.

The upper class have the highest tax percentage but the middle class pays the most taxes. Why? Because the rich have enough money to guard their wealth. Tax shelters, investments, etc. I am one of the wealthier Americans and if I had to pay all the taxes the Dems keep loading onto me I would go broke and all my employees would be out of jobs. I can promise you this, if the Dems succeed in raising taxes or passing a higher minimum wage then prices will rise negating their extra income. Of course a lot of Americans will be out of work because the easiest way to cut cost is to lower your business's biggest expense, payroll.

Like S says, poor folks already pay enough Taxes with Sales Tax and Gas and Utility Taxes and all the other Stealth Taxes people are hit with (you know, the ones a good accountant can bounce a Guy out of paying and leave them to the poor folks to pay). There are no quick fixes, the Deficit will be dealt with slow and steady ahoy.

I honestly don't know the answer to that...but what is wrong with implementing a sliding percentage? If you make more money, you can afford to pay more taxes (and by the way, the wealthiest Americans are all for this...), and if you are a lower income earner, you pay proportionally less.

The wealthy pay the majority of taxes paid into the federal budget.

Pelosi and Dems want to create a class war. One way or the other we will ALL pay more taxes while they pad their own pockets. i.e. Pelosi wanting bigger planes for herself, her family and 'special' constituents.

If they care so much why don't they refuse a salary and lifetime retirement? That would save billions.

The wealthiest already pay the highest percentage of taxes - both as a percentage of their income, and a percentage of total receipts to the government.

Ed buddy stop reading the Rush Limbaugh website his data is completely skewed.

The richest 5% do NOT pay 95% of the taxes. Did you know not only did FORD MOTOR CO pay NO taxes in 2004, due to loopholes STILL in the tax code, they received over $135 million in REFUNDS?

There IS no Middle class any more, and as far as actual dollars go, of COURSE Upper class pay more, they MAKE more. If taxes are 10% and I make a $100,000, my taxes are $10,000. If you make $10,000, your taxes are $1,000. of COURSE the ones who make more pay more.

I also believe CEOs who lay off minimum wage workers so they can give themselves $100 million bonuses should be in the 99% tax bracket.

I believe any business which supplies necessary commodities (power, medical, food) should have strict government oversight over profits. A nominal profit is fine, gouging the customer or rigging artificial shortages for products so necessary the customer cant boycott then in protest. I also believe in reinstituting the windfall profits tax, to DISCOURAGE corporate gouging.

No one who makes less than $28,000 per year in the US should be taxed on income. Sales tax, sure, but not income.

middle and upper middle

Yet millions of welfare deadbeats work less then part time and get thousands back in child tax credit. Money they didnt pay in, and they lived off our tax dollars getting food stamps and Medicaid. This should go back to the government to pay for their food stamps not go to them

Most dont pay taxes for property either because they rent.
