Hmm...you said she is 4 more weeks pregnant by the midwifes calculations...and she needs shots??? Whoa horsey!!! Did it occur to anyone that maybe your neice had a period the first month she was pregnant???? I think you better have her get to a ob/gyn for a much better exam. Don't start messing with things before everyone is absolutely sure of what is going on.

5 weeks difference. It sounds as though she could have been pregnant a month before she thought?

She may have had a period for the first month of pregnancy, it is not uncommon. Or the 'period' may heve just been implantation bleeding. Some women do not actually realise they are pregnant because they think that the implantation bleeding is their period, although it is usually just spotting, it has been known to be slightly heavier with some women.

An injection to slow the baby's growth does not sound good. I would get a second opinion before I took anything to do that. And maybe get her to think about whether she actually could have gotten her dates wrong. Or whether she had any signs that may indicate that she was pregnant earlier than she thought.

Get a second opinion, and that from someone that has no connection whatsoever to that midwife. Slow the baby's growth? Something really doesn't sound right.
Definitely, get a second opinion, and don't let her get any kind of injection from that person.

I would say that either the date of concieving is wrong or the due date. i personally wouldn't be too worried, my wife gave birth to our daughter 8 weeks ago and during the pregnancy there was three times where the midwives and doctors thought the baby wa sbigger than usual, but they left her to grow and now she is lovely and great!
i think injections are abit extreme, if she was about 6-8weeks ahead than she should be but i wouldn't be to concerned about this.

I have never heard of an injection to slow baby's growth. In any case, it doesn't sound safe to me. Babies grow at different rates, during different stages of pregnancy. I believe only an ultrasound can really tell how a baby is growing. Please tell her to go see a Gynae ASAP!

Well I would get a second opinion before just taking meds. If she is 17 weeks she should have had her first scan and the gynie should have picked up any abnormalities......

Has she had an ultrasound?? If not I would not take anything without knowing for sure this baby is developing too fast. She also could have gestational diabetes she should be tested for this first.
