As the Southern Methodist University (SMU) in Dallas, debate whether to be involved in a Library for the President, why is Bush classifying the vast majority of his papers? Roosevelt believed a president's papers should become the property of the nation. But then he WAS an elected President.

"Mr Bush has already shown that he wants to fight disclosure of his records. His administration has classified a tremendous amount of material as top secret - material that other administrations would not have classified in such a way."

Bush & Company have made it obvious from the moment he entered the presidential race that they have nothing but cotempt for the federal government. This justifies their policy of using the government to fill the pockets of their buddies who got them into the White House, and of leaving the government in shambles in the process. Until the 2006 elections they thought they had done what every con man tries to do - rob their mark without his even knowing he's been conned. But somewhere between the 2004 and 2006 elections enough of the red staters woke up and realized their president didn't give a damn about them or their country. Now all that's left for W is to cover his tracks as best he can and slither off to enjoy the spoils.

Right now, he is hiding the fact that he has full intentions of invading Iran. All the signs are in place for this to happen, a escalation in troop numbers, another fleet assigned to the Gulf region, doubling of the the national strategic Oil reserves and just recently an extra ordinary amount of money in the budget for the war in Iraq. He has done dirty deals like this since he was appointed president and he doesn't want the American people to know just how evil and corrupt he is. Like the meeting between he and the oil company's early in his presidency was classified and what came out of that was not a energy policy but rather a agenda to disrupt the oil supply in the middle east in order to up the price of the oil, and the profits of the oil company's, I am sure if an investigation into the money trail on who is profiting from this, it would lead back to the president and he has that to hide.

he has much to hide. the Bush administration (through Cheney) has revived the dictatorial spirit previously espoused by Richard Nixon. If people saw what was really going on they would be P*ssed.

Sounds like a legit question... where can we find supporting information? Any links available?

But I suppose instead of classifying information you would prefer he have Sandy Berger steal them from the national archives? That doesn't sound like a good plan either.

Since papers aren't permanently classified at least they would stay in the public purview for those with clearance. Having a political lackey steal them to destroy the records is scary.

I do not believe most things in the Washington Post.

This time is a time of war. The information is still very sensitive. We have to think the good of the nation.

I would imagine there is information that pertains to the war or national security that could aid those we are fighting if it were made public. Why was the warren commissions findings classified for so many years before they were made public?
