I think chips will be sold by volume but according to the calculator on this site http://www.pitchcare.com/shop/index.php?parent_id=182 it is ".... exactly 2.65 cubic metres, and would weigh approximately 2.65 tonnes." This is for wood or bark chips. Other options are given on the site

Note that what is quoted is metric tonnes

3.47yds3 / 2.62m3

1 tonne = 0.6m3 of aggregates.

2.62 divided by 0.6 = 4.367 tonnes.

buy 5 tonnes as this will settle or migrate. you may not be able to buy the same colour or type of chips in the future.

i would suggest at least 50 yards of chips that should work for you depending on the depth you would like to ubtain.
