Unless your doctor specifically told you that this would happen, then don't expect to automatically get an appointment!
Lots of people tell their doctor they are pregnant and expect things to happen, but they don't - you generally have to do most of it yourself!
Your doctor should put you in touch with the local midwives, who will do a booking appointment at around 10 weeks, and will discuss your options for ante natal testing.
What tests you have vary greatly depending on the area. Not all areas offer a 12 week scan. Some just do blood tests at 16 weeks, and you might have a dating scan at 15 weeks.
If that is the case and you want a 12 week scan, you will have to pay to have it done privately.
If 12 week scans are standard in your area, then the midwife will make you an appointment and you will get a letter, or you might have to call a number to make an appointment.
Don't assume your doctor will do anything for you because probably he won't have!!!

Ages, I have Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome and the doctor wanted me to have an early scan as I don't ovulate properly and I don't have a normal 28 day cycle. I went to my first midwife appointment and she told me just to wait until it comes through. I waited so long that I thought I would end up being past 12 weeks so in the end I rang the anti natal department at my local hospital and they arranged an appointment over the phone for when I was 12 weeks 3 days (turned out I was only 10 weeks and 5 days).
Don't worry you'll hear before you reach 12 weeks but if you are worried just give your anti natal department a quick ring and they'll be happy to help.
Good luck

It's 11-14 weeks,
You have your 1st appointment with the midwife at 8 weeks where she will take bloods.
She then makes the booking with the hospital.
They either send you a letter within a week or she will phone you to let you know,
But this is only if you have a low risk pregnancy,
If it's high risk you will have a scan at 6-8 weeks

I'm 10 weeks and had my first appointment with the midwife about 2 weeks ago. She sent the form off to the hospital and it arrived last week and the scans at the end of my 12th week. I think it kind of depends on when you make the appointment with the midwife really but cant say for sure.

in the UK the midwife comes to do all your notes then books you for a scan,
my midwife phones up the hospital and books it while she is here, but normally the dating scan is done around 12-16weeks.
so you should really hear by around 10weeks.
but i guess it depends how things are done where you live some surgery's do things different!!!!
i have only had the dating scan 12-16weeks
then an abnormality scan around 20weeks on the nhs.

Well mainly you have 3 scans, one in every trimester, the doctor should tell you how far along you are and then you can work it out yourself. I get a scan everytime I go to the doctor but I do pay for it myself, I just feel better seeing the little one move.....

Usually takes about 3 weeks, depends on your gp and hospital service. It also depends where you live to when you get a routine scan. I live in oldham and they offer a 12 week dating scan plus 20 week growth scan. I work at Huddersfield hospital and they only offer 20 week scan.
