I've got a first date tonight... if things go well and we continue to see each other I'd want to do something for her on Valentine's Day!

However I've only just met her, if you were in my shoes how would you approach it?

Well you kind of answered part of this question yourself. You are just getting ready for your first date. It is nice though that you are thinking ahead. What I would do is talk to her, get to know her as much as possible. Heck, even try bringing up valentines day. Just ask her what she thinks about the holiday in general, hopefully she will give you hints from there. If not, ask some questions. Like what was her favorite valentines day gift. What was her least favorite. etc.

As you get to know her, figuring out what to do for her should be easier. Remember though you won't have been together long, and in some cases it could scare her off if you try to get her something over the top, or take her somewhere super fancy. So like I said just talk to her. Get to know her.

As for me, I don't know if this will help, but a cheap meaningful gift ALWAYS means more then something not thought out, no matter how much it costs. If she's the sentimental type, you can try making her a valentine. It sounds corny, but if she's the type, it will melt her heart. And if for some reason the relationship doesn't go well, you didn't break the bank. If she mentions a particular candy she likes, get her that. If she happens to mention a particular flower she just can't get enough of, get her a couple. I would stay clear of roses though, unless she's absoultly in love with them, then I probably wouldn't go with a whole dozen.

As for where to go, thats completly up to you and her. I would say keep it fun and casual. Try and ask her about some hobbies she has. Maybe you could somehow incoprate that into your valentines plans.

I think a dinner would be nice. You can spend time getting to know each other, and since you'll be eating there wont be too much awkward-ness.

And the safest gift, since you just know her is probably chocolate. =] it's not too direct or corny, kinda cute.

Tell her that you enjoyed spending time with her and if she is available on Valentine's Day that you'd love to spend it with her. Good luck!
