Lots of thing can effect the tropospheres weather patterns. A volcano erupting would be a prime example. That causes ash induced thunder and lightning. How moist the atmosphere could. How thick the ozone is in a certain place could let more or less heat in and in turn, do something to the troposphere. Lots of elements of nature effect this area.

The troposphere is of course, the lowest part of the atmosphere. What we call weather happens there because of variations in moisture and temperature on a global scale.
