No, it is defintely unsafe because a newborn does not have the reflex to roll the food to the back of its tongue to be swallowed. It will be choked and the food may block its respiratory system and make it unable to breathe. Why does the baby need dates when all it needs for its first 6 months is only breastmilk or formula milk? I am a nurse and will strongly advise you not to do that. Take care.

No, it is not considered safe. It is possible that your child would develop an allergy to the fruit. Well that is what the doctors say about this anyway. It is like my husband said though, there are people that have one opinion, and people that have the opposite opinion, you have to decide which one is best for you. And you seam to have that problem since you say it is tradition and doctors say to wait until a baby is 4 months old (longer if preterm).

If it's the tradition and no other children have been harmed by it, why do you need to ask if it's safe? Medically, doctors do not recommend it, but western medicine is different compared to medicine in other regions.

I don't think it is safe, a baby is only designed to ingest milk at this stage. Apart from the obvious risks of choaking, babies aren't designed to digest anything but milk that early on.
