If they're engaged, have them get caught cheating and the engagement will be broken off, or if one of the sims die. There's a hack on modthesims2.com that allows engaged couples to select the option, 'break up'.

Just get one of them mad at the other. Make one cheat and get caught by the other, have them argue and fight (This one takes a while), or as someone else mentioned kill the one you like the least.
