I recently went for a job interview that seemed to go really well, however, today I've had the rejection letter. I'm curious to know where I fell short. Should I email them to find out where I went wrong so I can hopefully do better at future interviews?

If they bother to respond, you will not get a frank answer.

Don't think you went wrong somehow. Job interviews are like lottery tickets.

Just because things went well at the interview means nothing. It's a lot more pleasant to be friendly with someone even if you know you're going to hire your cousin anyhow.

yes, definitely. lot of personnel departments will be hesitant to say anything beyond "there was a more qualified candidate" but if you just ask for feedback on your interviewing skills, and assure them you are just looking for help in that regard, maybe you'll get some honest, helpful feedback

Until start work all interviews are just practice.
If you have more than one iron in the fire set backs don't hurt quite as much.

Unfortunately, they may not tell you why (probably won't tell you). Also, it may simply be someone more qualified or with more experience applied (or the owners cousin!). Employers have to be VERY careful what they tell rejected applicants because they can get sued (for various reasons).

Yes. It never hurts to ask and you may learn something that will be useful. Just be very polite in how you phrase your email.

They might not tel you, but it's perfectly fine to try. Make sure you ask why subly, like maybe... I want to know why I didn't get the job so I can work on it!!

Good luck my friend.
